Bird Hunting Questions and Answers

1.  What is the season at Walker River Resort (WRR) for hunting birds?  We start hunting, October 3rd , 2008 a Friday and end hunting, March 2nd , 2009 a Monday.

2.  What days can we hunt?  At WRR, you can hunt Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  We will also offer “carry-over” day for Bird Members on Mondays.

3.  What time can we hunt?  Morning hunts will be scheduled from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then you must exit the field.  Afternoon hunts will be scheduled from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  All birds must be to the cleaning tables by 4:30 pm.  Bird Cleaning will not be available on Monday.  These hunt hours will be available Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

4.  How many acres?  Hunters will be hunting on about 500 acres.  This is down river from the Resort and does not include the RV Resort areas.  There are approximately 10 fields.

5.  What type of cover is there?  Mainly willows, sagebrush, Indian rice grass, sedge (willowy grass), bitter brush and tulles.

6.  Can we hunt dove, ducks, geese, turkeys, quail and other unplanted game?  No, the resources of wildlife are limited and WRR is not offering other hunting opportunities.  Only chukar and pheasant may be hunted.

7.  How is the fishing?  Fishing is generally dependent on who is irrigating during the summer months.  This impacts the river levels.  Fishing is best from September to March or April.  Fishing is catch and release on this section of the West Walker River.  We generally have Rainbows and German Browns.  Fishing is by reservation.

8.  How many free birds with the “early bird” special?  Two free birds with the $599 membership, three free birds with the $1195 membership, four free birds with the $1695 membership, and six free birds with the $4695 membership.

9.  Are four-wheelers allowed?  Four-wheelers can be ridden down the main road to the hunting preserve, but not in the hunting fields or outlying areas.
